What Is Hypnosis

Although myths about it abound, hypnosis is one of the oldest forms of psychotherapy in the Western world, and it may also be the most misunderstood. Although long associated with charlatans or performers, all true hypnosis is, by definition, self-hypnosis. In spite of the prevailing myth, nobody can be hypnotized against his or her will. Instead, hypnosis is generally induced by focusing attention on positive mental imagery.

When To Consider Hypnosis

A number of hypnotic techniques exist, combining relaxation with imagery. People who undergo hypnosis may achieve a trancelike state, similar to what happens when they daydream or meditate. But hypnosis is actually a heightened state of concentration. The aim is to focus the mind to eliminate distractions and make someone more open to suggestions, such as those that promote the aims of treatment.

The American Medical Association approved hypnosis as a therapy in 1958, and the American Psychiatric Association followed in 1961. Since then, reviews have provided evidence about when this therapy is effective.

What Does Hypnoses Do?

As a hypnotherapist and licensed psychotherapist of many years, I have discovered that the one thing that stands between you and the life you wish for yourself is your mind.

Through hypnosis, I will help you take complete control of your mind, deciding what you want to achieve in order to move ahead and get it done.  I will help you consciously enter a positive state trance, in order to instill good feelings and steer your behaviors in the right direction. This is how you reach your goals.

Hypnosis In The Age of Zoom

Since the hypnotic state is achieved through suggestion it does not require the therapist and patient be in the same room. Zoom or FaceTime allow for the necessary interaction for you to enter into this trance-like state.

Once we know what habit, feeling, desire or goal is the optimal outcome- I input the messages you want to experience as the result. In a relaxed state (with eyes closed and breathing deeply) I will do both imagery and positive reinforcements! You must be in a quiet, comfortable chair and surrounding-where you feel safe and contained.

There are many steps to both assist you in arriving at your goal and supportive exercises to maintain your ultimate focus. I will also guide you to do (homework/self-hypnosis) with self-hypnotic suggestions that we create together–as it’s through repetition and association that the desired outcome will stick.
